Appchain

An appchain is a blockchain intended for use by a particular and often single decentralized application and thus may be subject to customizations accommodating the application's needs.

Appchains can be either monolithic blockchains or modular blockchains, depending on their design. For instance, Bitcoin can be viewed as a monolithic appchain for peer-to-peer electronic cash. Similarly, Ronin, the bespoke Ethereum sidechain for Axie Infinity, can be viewed as a modular appchain.
